Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - Childhood Trauma

“Trauma is primarily physiological…it is something that happens initially to our bodies and our instincts. Only then do its effects spread to our minds, emotions and spirits.” – Dr. Peter Levine

Many of us have experienced events in our lives that leave us feeling depressed, anxious, insecure, unsafe and no longer trusting of others or even our own instincts.

As a result, we may find ourselves avoiding relationships and intimacy, feeling sensitive towards others without understanding why, being afraid of rejection, or finding it hard to set boundaries.

Working with a counsellor can help recognise those intense feelings and thoughts and understand these patterns to try and establish a sense of safety in our own body. This process will take place at a gentle pace with the support of a trusting counsellor.
